Your first session will begin with filling in a simple health questionnaire and checking your blood pressure.  This is just to highlight any real major health issues that we should know about before you start to train, but remember, if you have any health problems, it does not mean that you will not be able to train, just that the training needs to be suitable for you.

At this point, we sit down and have a chat about your aims and goals; what you are trying to achieve from your training and if you have any deadlines. We will discuss your exercise history, or lack of it, any injuries, aches and pains you may have and how we can work around them and try to alleviate them, we may talk a bit about diet and nutrition, particularly if you are trying to lose weight and we can decide how we can tailor each session to give you the maximum benefit. You can ask any questions you may have and hopefully I will be able to allay any fears or concerns, and generally discuss how we can make the sessions work for you.

At this point we will start to exercise. After a warm up, you will move on to some light exercises.  To start with, it is far more important that you learn to do the exercises correctly than concentrating on how much weight you lift!  If you are either new to, or coming back to exercise, you will probably ache a little the next day, and concentrating on light resistance helps to minimise this by easing your body in gradually.  As we go through, we can assess any strengths and weaknesses you may have for future sessions and we will have time between exercises for any questions you may have and to generally start to get to know each other.  We will finish the session with some stretches to ease out all the muscles you have been working.

By the time you leave, I hope you will be feeling fantastic – a little tired for sure, but virtuous for having made the effort and having enjoyed your session.
